Applications of AI


The summer break has just begun. Before taking the much-needed break, the professor has begun planning a fall course, and this year is becoming a real challenge. One hotly debated and debated issue is how professors manage artificial intelligence (AI).

While some professors are considering banning AI use, others accept that there is nothing they can do to stop AI use in their students' work and try to assess accordingly. Many faculty members are looking to use a variety of generative AI tools to help students teach and learn.

In reality, AI is still in its early stages and is ubiquitous. AI is rapidly evolving and improving itself every day, and this technology fundamentally changes almost every aspect of our lives, and certainly classrooms. AI's transformation tools change unquestionably the way teachers try to think, engage and educate students, but we all still don't have a real idea of ​​how much of it is. By this time next year, if I had to predict something, all university students could work with some form of direct AI tutor to supplement the class, which would likely be a ground-change option for material learning and acquisition.

When AI comes to the classroom, they plan to manage the AI ​​revolution with their students this fall.

First, I intend to be directly and open to my students about the world and the reality of technology. I can't stop AI, and I really don't want to do it because its benefits can be amazing in countless areas of life. However, we emphasize that we need to remember that AI can also cause considerable harm in the field of education, and that thinking and education in AI must adapt accordingly. So make it clear that you are using AI to use students or that you cannot effectively “catch”. Generated AI models are extremely advanced, with students using multiple AI platforms and tools to complete and modify projects and papers to avoid detection.

Second, my students ask them to try to limit their use of AI in terms of class measurements and their written works. I recognize that AI is already part of the lives and the real world of so many graduates, but I will emphasize that our time is not yet the real world, but the moment they spend both their time and money.

Students can effectively “cheat” or work and do their job, but doing so is wasting the university experience. As a professor, it's my job to help students learn how to think, discuss, manage, manage data, write, navigate differences, and find the truth. My two courses this fall will be held at seminars and I hope they will put ChatGpt in their work as they will be able to see them regularly and see them personally and connect with each student.

Third, my coursework involves doing exercises and activities that are effectively offline, allowing students to read, think about ideas and data without the help of AI. My intention is not to be unfairly challenging or not in contact with it, but there are some evaluative works that take place in the class, with no technical or digital distractions. Students will need to present on a variety of reading materials and are asked to discuss specific topics directly with each other. Also, I ask the survey, but the students do not have ChatGpt before them. Instead, my students should be thoroughly spoken, fully familiar with the various ideas and theories, and ready to think on their own feet. They still need to connect with their peers in real time in real spaces, listen and respond. This requires students to be encouraged to be deeply thoughtful and involved in the material, even when preparing in advance using AI.

As part of this third point, I plan to bring a short essay writing exercise back to the seminar. The final exam will be conducted using a blue book, pencil and paper. I allow students to bring in hard copy notes that can be prepared in advance, but I will not provide a question prompt or allow digital devices when doing this work. Although some students expect to move away from taking my seminars due to these expectations, I have time to help students learn how to think and write, and I intend to make the most of the moment before AI lifts a lot for them, and they will not develop the ability to do an analytical and expressive job.

My goal in offline work is not to cause unnecessary stress for students or to oppose the benefits of AI. I am sure I will have to integrate AI directly in a short period of time, but for now I hope they are somewhat grateful for my educational growth goals, with the next semester being held back.

What I want to clarify to my students this fall is that liberal arts, university level education is about learning how to think and effective communication methods, and students need to make an effort to develop those skills before they can rely on AI and such skill atrophy. I'm totally certain that AI Advances will definitely force you to modify seminars to incorporate applications within a year, but I'll be evolving the technology a little more and confirming the evolution of higher education. For now, I share with my students that I am focusing on “old-school” learning methods, as there are no downsides to critically reading, writing and learning how to blend ideas, data and reasons. I think there will be more than a few students join me on this last AI freeride.
