LateNiteSoft, developer of the Camera+ app, has announced Photon, a new iOS camera app focused on professional-style image capture.

Camera+ was first released in 2010 and has undergone numerous improvements since then, making it one of the most popular iPhone camera apps over the past decade. LateNiteSoft created Camera+2 in 2018 to replace the original aging app, and added a desktop studio platform for his Mac in 2021. Last year, Camera+ 2 featured an artificial intelligence-driven image upscaler, demonstrating the company’s dedication to adding new features to its applications.

However, LateNiteSoft has clearly set its sights higher than general use and decided to challenge the likes of high-end Halide with Photon, which the company describes as the ‘successor’ to Camera+.according to tech crunchdevelopers are looking to leverage the app’s simple yet feature-rich interface in order to succeed.

“The last few years have truly been phenomenal in the world of mobile photography. Devices that were once just vehicles for calling and texting have turned into powerful imaging tools.

“We are excited to introduce our latest creation, Photon Camera, which builds on that rich heritage and is engineered with cutting-edge technology. It is a photography app that beautifully blends form and function, allowing both beginners and professionals to truly express their visual creativity.”

Photon is a free download and offers the ability to shoot in automatic mode, but the company charges a fee for access to full manual control, including adjusting focus, shutter speed, ISO and white balance. The app also gives photographers the ability to adjust the format and resolution of their images, including the ability to shoot in HEIF or JPEG, as well as RAW or Apple ProRAW.

The app also advertises focus peaking, histogram, grid overlay, and flash controls.

“We designed Photon Camera to be more than just a point-and-shoot interface. It’s a creative platform that offers a deep yet familiar set of controls. The intuitive user interface allows you to focus on the essence of photography and capture unique and compelling images that tell a personal story,” the company said.

To support the app, LateNiteSoft has published a detailed manual that not only explains the basic controls of the app and how to use them, but also includes a 5-chapter “Photo 101” section aimed at explaining the basics of photography.

As mentioned above, access to Photon’s controls is not free. The app is available as a $3.99 monthly or $19.99 yearly subscription, but LateNiteSoft also offers a “limited time” lifetime subscription for $39.99. The app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store.
