Dr. MPH, MD, Geoff Tison will use examples of applications in this one-hour online seminar to lead participants through the fundamentals of machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Featured speakers
Dr. Tison brings expertise in clinical research, advanced machine learning algorithms, and digital health, and promotes research goals for cardiovascular disease prevention. An expert in machine learning and artificial intelligence applied to medicine, he received formal training in epidemiology, statistical methods, machine learning and clinical research during his tenure at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and as a T32 scholar at the National Institutes of Health. He has led multiple research projects in large cohorts, including multiethnic studies of atherosclerosis and the Women's Health Initiative. Dr. Tison is an investigator for the UCSF Health Eheart study and leads several clinical research at UCSF. Dr. Tison's current interests include applying machine learning and deep learning techniques to large-scale electronic health data from heterogeneous sources to achieve individual cardiovascular prognosis and disease prevention goals.
Dr. Tison, a cardiologist and associate professor in the Department of Cardiology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), has earned the SC.B. He holds MD and MPH degrees from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Public Health in Brown University's Neuroscience. He completed his internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital and then completed a fellowship in clinical cardiology, advanced echocardiography and preventive cardiology at UCSF. He also served as the first UCSF “Digital Cardiology” Fellow. His efforts focused on validating and improving a variety of digital, mobile and medical device-based technologies to have the greatest impact on clinical care and medical research.
