Perplexity launches Personal Computer, which brings AI agents directly to your Mac

Perplexity has released Personal Computer, a Mac app that brings an AI orchestration system directly to your machine. It works with local files, native apps, and the web without having to route everything through the cloud. It’s currently rolling out to Max subscribers for $200 a month, with waitlist members first in line. The central idea is that personal computers complete tasks, not just answer questions. Double-tap both Command keys anywhere on your Mac and the taskbar will appear, recognizing the context of the app you’re using. From there, you can work with your Notes to-do list, clean up your chaotic downloads folder, pull from the web and cross-reference your local files, and send email via Apple Mail. Voice commands also work.

Why Perplexity continues to recommend Mac mini

The Mac mini running your computer is on 24 hours a day, and that’s important. You can start tasks from your iPhone and complete them on your desktop. Sensitive actions pass through two-factor authentication, file operations are performed in an isolated sandbox, and all operations are logged and reversible. For larger jobs, you can coordinate teams of agents across 20 or more frontier models simultaneously.

Personal computers are exclusive to Perplexity’s most expensive plans

Personal Computer is exclusive to Perplexity’s Max plan. The $20/month Pro tier only gives you access to the web-based Perplexity Computer, with no access to local files or native apps. The new app requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later and is built into the existing Perplexity Mac app.
