These posts often redirect users to external links, often to suspicious websites, adult platforms, or pages full of pop-ups. Importantly, there are no verified sources to confirm the authenticity of the video. A large portion of Payal Gaming's fanbase has strongly objected to the visuals, saying they appear manipulated and don't resemble her.
This pattern reflects a growing trend of popular creators' identities being misused to drive clicks, drive traffic to unsafe websites, and spread misinformation under the guise of “leaked” content.
Payal Gaming Viral Video: Experts Flag AI Deepfakes
Cyber law expert Pavan Duggal has repeatedly warned that deepfake videos are becoming increasingly sophisticated and dangerous. According to Duggal, such clips are often used as part of organized digital fraud, using shock value to dissuade users.
India does not yet have a law specific to deepfakes, but they are protected by existing laws. Under the Information Technology Act, 2000, it is a punishable offense to publish or transmit obscene or sexually explicit content without consent. Sections relating to identity theft, identity theft and cyber defamation may also apply in the case of deepfakes.
Additionally, the IT Rules 2021 require social media platforms to promptly respond to complaints regarding distorted images, impersonation, and non-consensual content. Platforms may be held liable if they fail to remove such materials within the prescribed time limits after being notified.
