The event showcased the rollout of new on-device AI capabilities, progress on co-developed omni models, advances in connectivity across the ecosystem, and outlined a shared vision for the next generation of AI phones.

From chips to experiences: The evolution of on-device AI

As the mobile experience becomes increasingly AI-driven, OPPO is driving an AI strategy centered around “new computing, new perception, new ecosystem.” At the core of this strategy is on-device computing, which enables low latency, privacy protection, and personalized AI experiences. As highlighted by Jason Liao, “On-device computing is the cornerstone of OPPO’s AI strategy, making AI a perceptible real-time experience integrated into everyday use.” This common vision underpins the close collaboration between OPPO and MediaTek on flagship chip platforms, accelerating the transition of on-device AI from technical concept to scalable deployment.

Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 platform, OPPO’s in-house developed on-device AI Translate and AI Portrait Glow deliver performance comparable to cloud-based solutions. These features will soon be rolled out to the OPPO Find X9 series through the upcoming ColorOS 16 software update.

On-device AI translation can run directly on the device and supports seamless multilingual translation while achieving an average accuracy improvement of 15% compared to traditional approaches. It maintains stable output even when there is no internet connection or weak signal, enabling reliable translations in a variety of scenarios.

Meanwhile, on-device AI Portrait Glow enhances portraits taken in harsh lighting environments. Intelligently analyzing and reconstructing scene lighting improves results in dimly lit or backlit environments while maintaining natural rendering without relying on the network. The demonstration showed excellent performance in both visual realism and adaptability to different scenes.

With support for audio, video, and text input, Omni enables live scene comprehension and interactive Q&A directly on your smartphone. This advancement enhances on-device AI’s ability to perceive and interpret the physical world, laying the foundation for more proactive and natural human-computer interactions.
