For those worried about AI disrupting employment, Openai has a solution. Get certified and use the newly announced Employment Committee to find new roles.
On Thursday, Fidji Simo, Openai's application head (and former CEO of Instacart), announced plans for workers to promote to the company's clients for new hires. She said that while AI is trying to shake up the job market, who is better to solve that problem than people who are shaking?
“AI is disruptive. The work looks different, companies have to adapt, and we all have to learn how to work in new ways, from shift workers to CEOs,” she said in a blog post.
“In Openai, we can't eliminate that confusion. But what we can do is help more people become proficient in AI, connect with companies that require skill, and provide more economic opportunities.”
Simo's plan is that workers will need to take high-tech criteria courses at Openai Academy and promote themselves on the upcoming Jobs platform. She said the company has already registered several big names in the scheme, but Walmart's choice as an early adopter may not encourage it in future career paths.
Openai declined to comment further on the plan.
“At Walmart, we know that the future of retail is not defined by technology alone, and it is defined by people who know how to use it,” John Ferner, CEO of Walmart America, said in a canned statement.
“By bringing AI training directly to associates, we have the most powerful skills of our time. We are rewriting our playbooks and giving them the skills to shape the future of retail.”
Openai Academy has had several well-known sign-ups, particularly for the well-respected computer science teachers at Georgia Tech, but Simo says it is strongly pushing for a White House plan to make AI a core skill for American workers, unless the business is too awake.
What Simo didn't directly mention is that by entering the job market, the company competes with one of its biggest backers, Microsoft. LinkedIn is a leading Western Jobs site, and Openai can hamper your heartfelt relationship by setting up a competitor.
Microsoft has not commented on the issue, but it appears Openai is scooping up an AI cream. And anything that floats at the top of the market on the proposed employment register. There is also the question of whether the skills Openai is a shilling have validity in the actual job market.
Meanwhile, CEO Sam Altman and most of Technology Glitterty attended a dinner hosted by first lady Melania Trump to discuss AI last night. Elon Musk was not there, but claims he was invited. ®
