What is the AI Governance Task Force?
The AI Governance Task Force 12 week part-time (8 hours per week), global and remote career development program. Intended for professionals who have already established their careers and want to pivot to a role focused on AI governance, policy, and safety.
Participants join as follows researcherworking in small teams to produce high-quality policy-relevant research. Through this process, we will build:
- Practical knowledge of AI governance and safety
- Transferable research and policy skills
- A specific work portfolio demonstrating relevance to a career in AI governance
The program is being executed by arcadia impactis a philanthropic organization focused on career development and field-building efforts that address pressing global challenges, with a particular focus on reducing risk through advanced AI systems.
Research-driven portfolio building experience
One of the task force's key differentiators is that Internal research leadership model. Each project is:
- Co-designed with renowned AI governance experts
- led by a dedicated person Research team leader
- Delivered by a multidisciplinary team of four researchers
Participants will receive systematic guidance throughout the research process, from defining the research question to creating the final product. Common artifacts include:

This approach provides participants with practical experience in producing work that is credible, visible, and consistent with real-world policy debates.
Winter 2026 Cohort: Projects and Expert Partners
The Winter 2026 cohort will feature several research projects in collaboration with leading figures in AI governance and safety. Confirmed projects include:

Identifying stages of AI incident emergence - Tommy Shafer Shane (Long Term Resilience Center)
Leveraging Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) for AI Out-of-Control Risks - Henry Papadatos (SaferAI)
Stress testing for out-of-control safety cases

Who is the program for?
What the task force wants Professional with high motivation and sense of mission Anyone looking to reduce risk with advanced AI. Applicants come from a wide range of fields including but not limited to:
- computer science and machine learning
- Engineering (software, systems, safety, mechanical, etc.)

Applicants do not need to meet all criteria. We encourage people with partially relevant backgrounds to apply, especially those with strong transferable skills.

- A clear intention to pursue a career in AI governance
- Basic understanding of AI governance and AI safety
- Proven domain expertise that can be transferred to AI governance
- Comfort working in a small, structured research team
- Excellent reasoning skills and ability to write clearly and concisely.

- Knowledge of frontier AI risk, incident monitoring, and governance ecosystems.
- A holistic view of the global AI policy and safety debate
- Previous academic or popular research publications or policy style documents
