Many experts in the tech field consider machine learning and other forms of AI to be the name of the game, but despite the fact, adoption rates are still fairly low. A recent survey conducted by the Digital Futures At Work Research Center revealed that just 36% of UK-based employers have implemented AI to date.
With all that said and done, it’s important to note that most of these companies also don’t plan to invest significantly more in AI in the future. Only 10% of the employers responding to the survey said they intended to increase their investment in this area, indicating that the AI revolution is as utterly entrenched as some have suggested. It seems to suggest no.
The main problem here seems to be employers’ inability to find people with the right kind of digital skills. Nearly 75% of employers said they struggled to find workers with the right digital knowledge to facilitate her adoption of AI into work processes.
However, it should be mentioned that only 10% of these employers are willing to invest in training programs. Such trends are troubling due to the fact that they may not be able to take advantage of the productivity gains brought about by the pervasiveness of AI.
Investing in digital training is critical if companies want to use AI more often than they otherwise would. Relying on old business processes may no longer be sustainable, as companies with the decency to leverage AI will outpace their competitors on all counts and considerations. These findings suggest that there’s a huge gap between what employers want and what they need to do to stay current when it comes to technology.
