AI Video & Visuals

Oakley and Meta have announced Oakley Meta Vanguard, a new line of performance-focused AI glasses for athletes engaged in high-intensity training and competition.

The glasses combine Oakley’s sports eyewear design with Meta’s AI software and hardware, marking the companies’ latest collaboration in wearable technology. Vanguard is designed to be worn during endurance sports and outdoor activities, with features that support hands-free training, monitoring, and content capture.

This frame includes an integrated action camera, open-ear audio, and voice-controlled Meta AI. The 12MP camera offers a 122-degree field of view and can record up to 3K resolution video with slow-motion, hyperlapse, and stabilization options. All capture features can be activated using voice commands.

“At Oakley, our goal is to always create for the future and deliver for the present,” said Caio Amato, Oakley Global President. “Oakley invented the sports performance category, and now with Oakley Meta Vanguard, we’re setting a new baseline for what’s possible. We wanted to redefine what eyewear can be by offering performance AI glasses, a technological advancement that truly amplifies human potential. And it’s a leap forward into a new era of human potential.”

Fitness tracking is integrated with platforms such as Garmin and other leading fitness apps. Athletes can request real-time performance data such as heart rate and pace through voice prompts. Peripheral LED indicators provide visual feedback on selected metrics, allowing users to see progress without taking their eyes off the activity.

Battery life is rated at up to 9 hours of typical use, with approximately 6 hours of continuous audio playback. The charging case extends total usage time by up to 36 hours, and the fast charging feature charges approximately half of the battery capacity in 20 minutes.

Audio is delivered through open-ear speakers designed to be heard in windy and noisy conditions. The five-microphone array is aimed at improving voice clarity, especially during outdoor calls and AI interactions.

Vanguard glasses have an IP67 dust and water resistance rating and are designed to be compatible with cycling helmets and sports headwear. It features Oakley’s three-point fit system and has replaceable nose pads to accommodate a variety of face shapes.

The glasses also support Hindi voice commands through the Meta AI app, allowing users to control calls, messages, media, and camera features in Hindi. Additional features focused on India include support for UPI Lite payments through voice interaction. Meta has also added a celebrity voice option featuring Deepika Padukone to its AI assistant lineup.

The lenses feature Oakley’s PRIZM technology, which increases contrast and color clarity while protecting against sunlight, wind, and debris during outdoor activities.

Available at leading optical stores, Sunglass Hut and LensCrafters. Oakley Meta Vanguard is priced starting at Rs 52,300.
