At COMPUTEX 2023 Trade Expo, technology giant NVIDIA unveiled a demo of the NVIDIA Avatar Cloud Engine (ACE) for gaming, demonstrating the power of AI in games on the big screen. The demo displayed a computer-generated image of a cyberpunk ramen café, and featured a bartender NPC that interacted with the player.
Nvidia has introduced the Omniverse Avatar Cloud Engine for Games, an artificial intelligence (AI) platform for video games that combines several previously separate AI-based features. Nvidia appears to be making one of the first substantial ventures into a field that has long been touted as a potential fruitful application of modern AI.
Nvidia worked with Melbourne company Convai to build the engine. NVIDIA services NeMo, Riva, and Omniverse Audio2Face were used to modify NPC history and personas, enable live voice conversations with NPCs, and generate facial animations from voice input. Despite the importance of ray tracing to rendering, Nvidia is poised to push things forward with his AI integration in addition. Using technology known as the Omniverse Avatar Cloud Engine for Games (ACE), his non-scripted NPCs can use their real voices to speak to the user in-game.
Modders have shown that Nvidia’s AI-based technology is incredibly adaptable and can be implemented in games that don’t support it natively. Modders implementing Nvidia DLSS in Fallout 4 represent this well, as do AMD and Intel’s native upscaling solutions. ACE for Games could be just as adaptable. However, I still don’t understand this.
The impact of artificial intelligence’s entry into the gaming industry is likely to get the most attention so far, but the people who should already be most concerned are writers. His in-game NPC voice and quest text will soon be written by his AI, despite possible protests and opposition in the future. This has already happened and will be coming to the game this year as well. However, his Nvidia announcement last night suggests that its impact could be far more far-reaching than previously thought, eventually replacing voice actors, animators, lighting teams, and the entire shebang. indicates a possibility.
This is the beginning of the possibilities for more complex and interesting game characters. Additionally, AI facilitates the creation of new worlds and characters in record time. This is great news for video game developers. The possibilities of this technology are amazing. Games that previously required hundreds of players may now be completed by teams or individuals of ten. Players can instantly enter the game with true role-playing and have meaningful conversations with their virtual counterparts.
