Google is making the AI mode of search even more useful by allowing you to connect third-party apps. Starting this week in the U.S., you’ll be able to securely connect some of your favorite apps directly into AI mode, allowing searches to actually complete tasks instead of just answering questions.
This update builds on a similar trick that Google is already pulling within its Gemini app, this time bringing it to search itself. The initial rollout includes three launch partners: Instacart, Canva, and YouTube Music, and Google says more app integrations are on the way.
Which apps can currently connect to AI mode?
The first wave of integration focuses on the kinds of everyday tasks that typically start with a random Google search. Let’s say you’re having a backyard barbecue and using AI mode to organize your grocery list. When you connect to Instacart, all of your ingredients go right into your cart, so you can check out with just a few taps without having to shop separately.

Need to design a flyer or invitation, but just don’t feel like opening Canva yourself? Just ask AI Mode and it will provide you with ready-made template options. If you want the perfect playlist to match the mood of your event, you can use YouTube Music in AI mode to create a playlist, save it to your library, and hit play before your guests show up.

Why is this update important?
This isn’t just a small adjustment. In fact, this is a major change in how Google Search operates. Google Search now takes you directly to the apps you already use, instead of throwing a pile of links at you to get the job done yourself.
With this update, AI mode becomes less like a search bar and more like a personal assistant that quietly runs errands in the background. And Google says this is just the opening act, with more app partners expected to join soon.
