Today, the Mario Gallery in Gore breathes new life into the legacy of Mario Miranda, a well-known Goan manga artist whose sketches, caricatures and portraits have pleased a generation. Using the power of artificial intelligence, Mario Gallery created a unique experience with the help of existing vast archives of 13,000 original Mario Miranda drawings. The gallery curators meticulously trained AI models to emulate the master's signature style.
Mario Gallery curator Gerald da Cunha said it took three months to master art.The technology will be available at Torda's gallery on August 23 at 4pm. “Anyone can come and generate their own Mario sketches,” he said. toi.AI models are built using deep learning techniques known as style transfer and generation modeling. AI will learn to recognize the unique features that define his art, such as delicate linework, shading, and composition, by supplying thousands of original Mario Miranda sketches, caricatures and portraits.When visitors submit photos or selfies, AI analyzes facial features and applies Mario's unique sketch style to reconstruct the image, creating a hand-drawn effect that feels like the real thing. This process involves complex algorithms that mimic the artistic strokes and patterns of Miranda's hands, emulating all portraits of his art.“This innovative project speaks to the volume of AI's evolving role in art and culture. While much of the discourse on artificial intelligence focuses on its disruptive potential or the fear of acquisitions, the Mario Gallery initiative presents practical applications. It's fun to have people involved in getting the sketches Mario would have done,” Da Cunha said.Miranda was an Indian cartoonist and painter based in Rootrim, Goa. He was a regular in the Indian era of Bombay at the time and in other newspapers. Miranda is known for her detailed portrayal of Goan's life, and his work was celebrated worldwide. He was also the recipient of Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest private award.
