NotebookLM adds “Movie Video Overview”

AI Video & Visuals

Google is rolling out cinematic video overviews to NotebookLM that go beyond narrated slides and further improve the capabilities of Canvas in AI mode.

Previously, video summaries essentially created slide decks with narration. Cinematic Video Overview produces “unique, immersive videos tailored to you.”

NotebookLM leverages Gemini 3, Nano Banana Pro, and Veo 3 to deliver “fluid animations and rich, detailed visuals to help you learn and engage with the topics you care about. Google describes Gemini as a “creative director” who makes “hundreds of structural and stylistic decisions to best tell your story with your sources.”

You can also decide on the best narrative, visual style, and format, and refine your own work to ensure consistency.

It’s rolling out today for Google AI Ultra subscribers on web and mobile.

As for apps, NotebookLM has published shortcuts to open Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides directly in the native app (if installed) instead of inline. Tap the button on the top right for a richer view. Prompt-based slide deck revisions are now also available by tapping the button in the corner.

Meanwhile, Canvas in Google AI mode supports creative writing and coding tasks and is now fully available to US English users. This “dynamic space for organizing plans and projects over time” is available from the “Plus” tools menu.

You can now draft documents and create custom interactive tools within search.

The canvas appears as a side panel next to the chat, allowing you to continue adjusting the output. Additionally, you can view the underlying code.

Whether you’re building a custom tool, studying for an exam, or planning a trip, Canvas in AI mode makes it easy to start your next big project.

Google has also improved recipe results in AI mode. “When you search for meal ideas like ‘easy dinner for two’, tap on a dish to see links to related recipe sites and a quick overview of the dish to help inspire you.”

In the future, Google plans to add cooking times to more results and other “helpful information” to improve use cases.
