Video content creators are concerned as YouTube has begun cracking down on AI-generated content and even removed some AI-based videos and audio without disclaimers. The popular video-sharing platform then announced Thursday that using AI to create content, especially rehashed or repurposed content, won't necessarily lead to demonetization.
According to YouTube's policies, “repurposed content” refers to non-original video, audio, and short videos. This includes material already available online without significant commentary or modification, such as compilations, short social media videos, song collections, and non-value-added content.
As YouTube says, these types of rehashed videos aren't always eligible for monetization, regardless of whether they use AI to create the content.
But now YouTube is also asking creators to start labeling videos that used AI in their creation as “altered or synthetic content.” Labeling with this new tool reveals whether a video contains manipulated content, such as altering footage of the actual event or producing scenes that did not occur. can do.
