Starting this fall, two graduate degrees within the School of Business Administration’s Department of Operations Management and Information Systems (OM&IS) will be restructured to focus on artificial intelligence and analytics.
Previously known as the Master of Science in Data Analytics (MSDA) degree, this degree Master of Science in Business Analytics and AI (MSBA&AI)). This change was made to better meet new workforce needs and evolving industry demands. The name change is designed to reflect the program’s current and increasing focus on the application of data analytics and artificial intelligence to business decision-making processes.
“Over the past decade, data analytics has matured into a broader, more strategic field that integrates artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning into business decision-making,” said Charles Petersen, Chairman of OM&IS. “Employers are increasingly looking for graduates who can not only analyze data, but also design and apply AI-driven models that power automation, predictive insights, and competitive advantage.”
The program’s curriculum has already expanded beyond traditional descriptive and predictive analytics to include courses in machine learning, AI applications, and data-driven business strategy. The new title better describes these advanced capabilities and communicates to future students and employers that the program equips graduates with both technical proficiency (data science, AI tools) and business acumen (strategy, process optimization, value creation). The program will continue to be delivered online and asynchronously and can be completed in as little as 12 months.
The Master of Science in Management Information Systems has now been redesigned as our degree. Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence for Business (MSAIB) program. This program prepares you for leadership roles at the intersection of business and AI technology, focusing on the use of artificial intelligence, computer technology, and data analytics to improve business processes. Graduates will gain knowledge in the application of modern information management theories with modern AI applications, information systems, business analytics, and intelligent automation. This program is delivered online through both synchronous sessions and asynchronous lectures.
“Through this innovative program, MSAIB graduates will learn how to align information systems and AI solutions to business strategies while developing business solutions using programming languages and AI tools,” Petersen said. “We teach students how to analyze and model organizational processes, design and create databases to manage business data, and use statistical techniques to understand the real-world impact of business decisions.”
While we focus on preparing our graduates for an AI-driven workforce, the exceptional value of our learning experiences, faculty, and resources remains the same.
These new degree titles only apply to the 2026-2027 Graduate Catalog and beyond, but students should expect program names to change on their websites and other marketing materials as they prepare for the changes. It is important to note All current MSDA and MIS students will be able to complete their desired degree without interruption.
“As always, student success remains our top priority,” said Joan Phillips Hernandez, Dean of the College of Business. “We are working carefully to ensure a smooth transition of our curriculum and degree plans. The program will continue to be taught by elite faculty and maintain its coveted AACSB accredited status. Our goal is to increase the value of this degree while continuing to prepare our students to lead the AI-enabled workforce. We are excited about this next chapter and the opportunities it will create for our students and graduates.”
