New research shows New Zealand’s AI adoption rate is relatively low, with more than a third of workers feeling guilty about using AI.
A global report by Employment Hero shows New Zealand businesses have relatively low AI adoption rates compared to the UK, Australia and Canada.
New Zealand’s workforce is becoming increasingly skilled and reliant on AI in the workplace, but research shows many are hiding how much they are using it.
Neil Webster, Employment Hero’s general manager for New Zealand, said: “The workers who are most capable of AI are the most contradictory.”
“They know what it can do for them, but they worry about the impact it will have on their roles and lives.
“One key statistic shows that 37% of Kiwi workers feel guilty about using AI at work, despite recognizing that it can help them create better jobs and develop valuable skills.”
He said employers could help combat AI guilt by creating a positive environment for technology adoption.
“Many companies are still considering what AI in the workplace should look like, and that’s not surprising, because AI is evolving rapidly and there is no one-size-fits-all approach,” Webster said.
“However, we are seeing employers provide clear guidance and practical support to their teams, and celebrate the productivity gains enabled by AI, giving people more confidence to use AI in ways that benefit both the business and their own professional development.”
