Google-owned YouTube made four big bets in 2025 earlier this year, but is working on (and even deploying) initiatives tailored to that goal.
For reference, two of our strategic goals for 2025 were to continue investing in AI tools to enhance content discovery and enhance user experience. Now, it's just announced by YouTube, and it's essentially hitting two of those birds with one stone.

Machine learning to make YouTube safer for everyone
The streaming giant today announced a new feature paired with existing features that are expanding to more users.
Starting today, US YouTube Premium users will be launching a new AI-powered video search experience. This is limited to the platform's mobile apps. The new search experience highlights the dynamic carousel with clips from the video that match the search query.
For example, if you search for “the best beaches in Hawaii,” you may see dynamic carousels with clips highlighting the best snorkeling spots and volcanic beaches. Alternatively, a search like “Best Noise-Cancelling Headphones” could highlight different segments of various well-known technical reviewers on YouTube.
The streaming giant emphasized that experiences do not appear in all searches. It is more likely to appear in searches related to “shop, place, or do at a specific location.” If you'd like to try out the new features, go to YouTube Labs and tap “Try it” AI-equipped search results carousel.
Expand “Ask” access
Elsewhere, going back to November 2023, YouTube has begun testing conversational AI tools to get answers to questions about videos users are watching, related content recommendations, and more. The “Ask” tool, as we know now, has long been exclusive to YouTube Premium subscribers, but Paywall is coming down.
YouTube has announced that it will expand its conversational AI tools to “some non-premium users” in the US in the “next few days.” This phrasing makes conversational AI tools sound like they haven't yet expanded widely among non-premium users.
