We have received more information about the Fujifilm X-T6 from a reliable source (thank you ❤️).
We believe the specs below are 100% accurate.
- 40 megapixel sensor
- New AI autofocus
- 8K video
- new battery
- Available in silver and black
Let’s talk about them right away.
40 megapixels
We don’t know the details, but we do know that many of Fujifilm’s fifth-generation cameras already use 40-megapixel sensors.
So I don’t think my speculation (which is by no means a rumor) that the rumored 46 MP sensor of the Fujifilm GFX180 could be used is accurate.
I’d happily go for the extra 6 megapixels, but the difference isn’t that important in the end anyway.
Since it’s a 40MP sensor, you’ll see three options.
- It’s the same 40MP sensor as the X-T5, but you can use its full potential thanks to a 6th generation processor.
- Minor design adjustments to improve readout speed (as with 102MP Fujifilm GFX100II HS sensor)
- Same 40MP but with some major changes/improvements
Since I don’t have any information other than “40MP”, I’ll try to figure out which is the correct option.
AI autofocus
I think everyone was probably expecting an improvement in autofocus. But when it comes to Fujifilm autofocus, no matter what they call their new autofocus system, I’m only going to believe it when I see it.
Still, “AI autofocus” could indicate that Fujifilm has done some (a lot?) work on the AF algorithm, and we hope this will lead to stronger autofocus performance as well.
We’ll find out in September if there’s a real improvement behind the new AI autofocus.
8K video
I’m not a videographer, so I can’t get too excited about it. But I also know that for many people this is an important aspect of modern mirrorless cameras. So I’m glad it’s not relegated to the Fujifilm XH line and is also included in the Fujifilm X-T6.
