Hollywood may have ambivalent feelings about using AI to create content, but Netflix seems ready to dive into the deep end. According to The Vergethe streaming service has launched a new studio called INKUbator that specializes in creating generative AI content. Based on the team’s current job postings, it appears the studio will create short-form animated content centered around gen-AI workflows and tools.
Given that INKubator is still hiring for some pretty important roles like Head of Technology, it might be a while before viewers see what this group produces. First, the team’s goal appears to be to produce animated shorts and specials, but there are also hints that Netflix has bigger ambitions for INK. One job listing says the team plans to “expand from short-form content to long-form content” at some point.
Netflix hasn’t been shy about embracing AI, so it’s not at all surprising that the streaming service would go down this path. The company is already using the technology in advertising, having acquired Interpositive, an AI startup founded by Ben Affleck. Vertical video, an upcoming feature on Netflix’s mobile app, seems like the perfect place to put the kind of gen-AI content we’ve come to expect from INKUbator.
