Nature Awards has partnered with BCG X AI Science Institute to launch an international award to recognize research teams using artificial intelligence and machine learning to address major global challenges.

The new award, AI for Discovery, celebrates projects that use AI to accelerate scientific progress and turn it into practical solutions. We will focus on three priority areas: health, sustainability and manufacturing.

Richard Hughes, vice president of publishing at Nature, said: “Researchers today are in extraordinary times, with advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning rapidly changing what’s possible in science. We’re excited to partner with the BCG X AI Science Institute to support teams accelerating discovery through these technologies, and we look forward to applications from research groups around the world.”

Adi Zolotov, Managing Director and Partner at BCG and Global Leader of the BCG “The Institute will have the opportunity to sit side by side with researchers who are changing the way science is done. AI is opening up entirely new ways to explore complex problems, but translating those breakthroughs into real-world impact remains incredibly difficult. We want to bring together scientific rigor and industry insight to help bridge the gap so these hypotheses can truly make a difference.”

Applications are currently being accepted for the first award in 2026. Four finalists will be selected by an independent panel of judges and announced in November. Each finalist will receive a $10,000 development grant and access to an online training program provided by BCG X AI Science Institute consultants. One overall winner will also receive customized coaching from BCG X experts to hone their research strategies and scale their impact.
