Mrbeast is worried about AI. Top YouTubers around the world believe that AI-generated videos can threaten creators' livelihoods.
“When AI videos are as good as regular videos, I wonder what it does to YouTube and how it affects the millions of creators who are currently making content for their living,” he wrote on X, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson.
When platforms like YouTube and Openai introduce new AI tools that make video generation much easier, authors will receive comments.
Last week, OpenAI launched Sora 2, a new version of its Generated AI Video feature that allows users to insert into videos using simple text prompts. The resulting video may actually be displayed (although it is often a bit creepy). In September, YouTube unveiled a number of new AI video tools for creators, including the ability for audio podcasters to generate short videos from transcripts.
The new wave of AI technology has several creators, like Mrbeast. As AI-generated videos continue to advance, it can quickly become difficult for viewers to distinguish between human-generated content. How do YouTubers compete with machines that can instantly create, edit and post content?
Mrbeast knows firsthand that AI is a hot button problem in the world of creators. In June he faced a wave of rebound after releasing an AI tool that would help him create thumbnail images for YouTube. Donaldson quickly pulled down the functionality and instead instructed users to hire human artists.
“I care more than anyone else about the YouTube community than I can imagine,” Donaldson said at the time. “When people in the community do things that make me angry, it makes me deeply sad.”
Mrbeast did not provide any additional comments on the latest posts about X.
