Morgan Freeman has responded after a TikTok clip using an AI version of his voice went viral across multiple social media platforms, with viewers thinking that he was actually the one narrating the video.
On June 23, 2024, a woman on TikTok going by the name “Justine's Camera Roll” uploaded a video in which she claimed to be Morgan Freeman's “niece” and narrated the video using an AI-generated voice of the actor.
“Welcome to A Day in the Life of My Niece, narrated by me, Morgan Freeman,” said AI Morgan Freeman.
The video quickly went viral, garnering hundreds of thousands of views on social media and many comments from people who were convinced it was real.
A user shared the clip on Twitter/X, where it has garnered over 16 million views and hundreds of comments from users around the world.
“AI or not, I'm so sick of hearing 'does this look like culture? It's not even Spanish…'” one user replied to the post.
Another person said: “I was about to scream in the comments section until I read some of the comments.”
“I was so excited for her at first,” a third commented.
Users quickly took to social media to try and get Freeman's attention, who released a statement about the video on June 28.
“I want to thank my amazing fans for their vigilance and support in highlighting the unauthorized use of an AI voice imitation of my voice. Your dedication has helped ensure authenticity and honesty remain a top priority. I'm grateful,” he said.
This TikTok user narrating a video with an AI Morgan Freeman voice is the latest use of AI voice generation to go viral on social media.
In April, an AI-generated video of Adyn Ross led fans to destroy their PS5s. In October 2023, Robin Williams' daughter Zelda called it “disgusting” that AI was being used to recreate her late father's voice in a video.
