Miramar hosts first back-to-school AI bootcamp for teens

Artificial intelligence is changing the way students learn, and the City of Miramar is launching a program to get ahead.

Through its partnership with MetAiBlock, Miramar will host a back-to-school AI boot camp where kids ages 13 to 15 can leave with projects they made using AI tools.

The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, July 27, through Friday, July 31, at the Ansin Sports Complex.

Computers will be provided, and the students will receive instruction from certified teachers, a free lunch and certificate of completion.

Through the program, students will develop their own content, including music, digital comic books, printed or online materials and video projects.

MetAiBlock helps businesses adopt and learn about AI usage through workshops and coaching.

“Through this partnership with the City of Miramar, we are creating an engaging learning experience that allows students to turn their ideas into real projects while developing skills that can support their academic and professional futures,” Charles Smart, CEO and co-founder of MetAiBlock, said in a news release.

The five-day camp was initiated by Vice Mayor Carson “Eddy” Edwards, who said he wants children to participate in the future of AI.

“This boot camp will provide our teens with meaningful exposure to AI in a safe and structured environment where they can explore new ideas, strengthen their digital skills and see themselves as creators, not simply consumers of technology,” he said in the release.

Teachers will also stress the importance of ethical use of AI.

Registration is $25 for Miramar residents and $30 for non-residents, and the program is open to children residing in Broward County.
