Midjourney is a San Francisco crew known for its artistic AI imaging tools and stepped into the video with a V1 video model. This image-to-video setup turns the photo into a short, dreamy clip, throwing it into the ring with big names like Google's VEO 3, Openai's Sora, and Kling AI.

V1 plays Midi Joanie's strength in creating images. That's why I've climbed up photos and photos uploading the V7 model and myself. Press “Animate” on a web page and spits out 4 5-second clips in 480p and 24 frames. You can stretch them in chunks of 4 seconds up to 21 seconds, giving you a little space to unfold the story. “Today's video workflow is called 'from image to video,'” said David Holz, CEO of Midjourney, in a blog post. “This means creating images in Midjourney as usual, but now you can press “Animation” to get them moving. ”

The user gets two animated vibes, either automatic or manual, to cook “motion prompts” for random actions. This enters specific movements, such as “characters dancing in the rain” or “camera panning across the street.” In the movement settings, you can either tweak the leaves or fine-tune them with “low movements” in quiet scenes where the characters flash, or get caught up in large camera swings and “high movements” of lively subjects, but they can also be visually glitches. Holtz calls it “fun, easy, beautiful, affordable” and aims to keep it fun and viable for the creative type.
Currently, at launch, the V1 will fit perfectly into existing subscription plans only on Midjourney's web platform, starting at $10 a month in the base tier. However, video jobs cost more. Each is eight times the credits for the image job, increasing the approximately one credit per second for the video. Midjourney boasts that the competition is “about 25 times cheaper” and shows off a budget-friendly atmosphere. For Pro and Mega Plan people ($60 and $120 a month), there's a “Video Relax Mode” that line up jobs at a slower pace, saving those fast slots. Holtz admits that pricing is a bit difficult, saying, “The actual costs of producing these models and the prices we charge are hard to predict. We will adjust everything to make sure we run a sustainable business.”
Throw your image as a “start frame”, manipulate your movements with text hints, and open up neat ways to animate your own sketches and old snapshots. That being said, V1 skips audio so you'll need to add songs later, but that doesn't run the straight text to video.
V1 jumps into the harsh crowd. Google's VEO 3 unlocks video from text with sound effects and sharper resolution. While Openai's Sora and Runway's Gen 4 focus on tight control of their strengths, Kling 2 nails the smart motion of physics. Midjourney's image-to-video limitations are a bit behind in flexibility, as Tom's Guide states: Still, its low price and artistic feel carves out a sweet spot for enthusiasts and artists.
