Rachel Akufo: Well, Microsoft’s annual developer conference Build starts today. Hear from developers, engineers, and technology experts about the company’s latest innovations. And one area of particular interest for investors and experts to listen to is how Microsoft is expanding its AI technology. Dan Howley from Yahoo Finance is here to give you more information and AI.you must love it
Dan Howley: That’s right, Rachel. Microsoft’s Build conference is full of AI news. We have three big announcements to keep an eye on. The first is about Microsoft’s Bing search engine. They have Bing Chat, which utilizes some of the technology OpenAI has with ChatGPT.
But now ChatGPT actually embeds Microsoft’s Bing search engine. This means that whenever you launch ChatGPT, you’ll be able to perform more timely searches. So maybe not just this second, but it will be more timely than getting it from ChatGPT since it was trained on old data.
The reason this is important is that it’s not only good for ChatGPT users, but it also puts Bing in front of more people. And here Microsoft is chasing search engine market share. And they’ve said in the past that his 1% of market share is potentially his $2 billion in revenue for Microsoft.
So if you can bring your search engine to more people through this ChatGPT extension, it would be worth it. ChatGPT Plus users will also be able to use it. It’s a paid service. For free users, just activate the plugin. And we’ve seen ChatGPT released on iOS, and it will be released on Android as well.
Another announcement they made is called Azure AI Services. This is basically Azure AI Studio. And this is basically a vehicle for companies to develop their own chatbots, or what Microsoft calls copilots.
Basically, you have to think of a company that offers different healthcare options and find out which company you can buy your glasses from. You will be able to access the company portal. The type that comes with glasses in the health care plan. And instead of reading through a ton of pointless paperwork, you get the answer.
And this is what Microsoft says it plans to roll out to enterprise customers. And those customers can make it available to consumers and internally.
And one of the other final announcements from Microsoft is called Windows Copilot. Now they’re essentially rolling out a chatbot for Windows itself. So clicking that his Copilot app from the taskbar will give you direct access to it. You will be able to request changes in Windows settings, etc. You can summarize the information and copy and paste directly. And set up third party plugins.
As a matter of fact, there are a ton of AI-related announcements and generative AI-related announcements from Microsoft today. And they just follow this pattern. Since his February launch of Bing and Edge, they’ve been continuously hammering the fact that we’re pushing generative AI. We have an OpenAI partnership.
I’m here for a Google search. Google seems to be trying to recover from that. And they have their own I/O developer conference coming up. Meta, Apple, and other big tech companies are also chasing generative AI. But for now, Microsoft is taking center stage.
Rachel Akufo: And we know we’re always waiting to see what Apple does. However, we still benefit from having his ChatGPT in our iOS app. So we take those charges from there. But I would also like to see a deal with Apple, a multi-billion dollar deal with Broadcom. Please tell me more about it.
Dan Howley: Yes this is interesting. This is for his 5G technology they plan to offer. And as you know, Apple is clearly obsessed with their silicon. But here they are making a big deal with Broadcom. I wonder if it will be in the next iPhone, or what we’ll call the iPhone 15, or in a later version of the iPhone. To be safe, let’s call it the iPhone 16.
I have to wonder if these devices show them. But with the smartphone market in recession, it’s clearly a big win for Broadcom at this point. We’ve been talking about how Apple’s revenue has been declining year-over-year. However, they expect the situation to improve towards the end of the year. That’s when the latest mobile phones are released and things may start to turn around again.
Rachel Akufo: Especially if the new smartphone has undergone major changes. We are always looking for the next, biggest and brightest talent. Thanks for the update, our very own Dan Howley was there for us.
