A new report from Business Insider claims that Microsoft is considering formal metrics to assess the amount of employees using AI during work days.
The outlet viewed an email from Julia Liuson, president of Microsoft's developer division. This instructed managers to include employee performance reviews to include time spent using internal AI tools both internally and competitively.

“AI is a fundamental part of how we work right now,” Liuson wrote in an email. “As with collaboration, data-driven thinking, and effective communication, using AI is no longer an option. It's at the heart of every role and every level.”
AI uses in workplaces are already increasing. This week, Salesforce CEO Mark Benioff told Bloomberg that AI handles half of all his work at the company.
AI is currently taking care of 30-50% of my job at Salesforce,” Benioff said.
Meanwhile, a new report from Signalfire, a venture capital firm that monitors the work movements of more than 650 million employees on LinkedIn, found that advances in AI have already led to reduced employment for major alumni (down 25% from 2023 to 2024).
