Since the massive adoption generated in late 2022, fear has been growing among the public that new technologies have led to massive layoffs, even bringing about job changes, as we know them. Recently, business leaders have begun to openly declare that AI will lead to unemployment, even if they don't know which jobs will be lost exactly.
For example, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has publicly said that artificial intelligence will lead to reduced company workforce over the next few years, thanks to increased efficiency.
Meanwhile, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently said, “Whose jobs will be affected? Some jobs will be lost. A lot of jobs will be created, and what I hope is that the productivity gains seen in all industries will be boosted by society.”
However, a new Microsoft investigation provides insight into which jobs are at the most risk for artificial intelligence. Researchers analyzed 200,000 conversations between Microsoft's Copilot AI and users and searched to find the most common activities to use AI. Knowledge workers, such as historians, writers, authors, CNC tool programmers, brokerages, political scientists, reporters, journalists and other journalists, have found that they are at the lowest risk of being threatened by AI.
Furthermore, researchers point out that getting a university degree may not help protect these jobs from being excluded.
“From an educational requirement perspective, we can see that AI is more applicable to occupations that require a bachelor's degree than occupations with low requirements,” the researcher said.
