New Delhi, 30 June 2023: Microsoft announced a new AI Skills initiative to help people and communities around the world harness the power of AI. This new initiative is part of Microsoft’s Skills for Jobs program and includes new free coursework developed in collaboration with LinkedIn. A new grant challenge by data.org aims to help organizations create new ways to train, upskill, and reskill their employees in generative AI.
According to Microsoft’s recent Work Trend Index, AI is uniquely poised to create entirely new ways of working as the pace of information work outstrips human capacity. A whopping 76% of Indian workers said they struggled to find enough time and energy to get the job done, according to the Index’s Indian survey results. Microsoft and LinkedIn have launched a new learning pathway that offers free introductory learning content for generative AI. Through this new coursework, workers will learn introductory concepts in AI, including an overview of responsible AI frameworks, and receive a Career Essentials certificate upon completion. This is the first professional certificate on Generative AI in the online learning market.
According to a recent Nasscom report, India has the second largest AI talent pool in the world and ranks first in terms of both AI skills penetration and AI talent concentration. However, considering the current talent base of around 420,000 professionals, there is still a 51% gap between supply and demand for AI/ML big data analytics talent in India. Microsoft is pushing forward with its efforts to improve AI skills and employee readiness, and in the past two years, nearly 70,000 female students in Tier II and III towns have been trained in AI skills.
As part of the Skills for Jobs program, this new initiative continues Microsoft’s commitment to bringing digital skills to people around the world and builds on Microsoft’s other Skills for Jobs to fill the cybersecurity skills gap and the sustainability skills gap.
