- Analysts say Microsoft is at a major turning point with Copilot.
- As the company's AI tools grow in popularity, analysts say the company's cloud offerings will continue to benefit.
- The tech giant beat Wall Street expectations in the first quarter.
Microsoft's investments in artificial intelligence may be propelling it into a historic moment.
Analysts at investment bank Wedbush Securities said in a note Friday that they believe the tech giant is having an “iPhone moment” in AI. The term is used to describe a turning point when a technology suddenly increases in popularity and becomes widely available, such as when Apple's iPhone became popular with consumers.
For Microsoft, Copilot could be the driver. Analysts said they observed “significant momentum” in the use of AI, which will benefit CEO Satya Nadella and his company more than ever.
They predict that AI is on track to change the technology industry forever, and that AI will continue to drive Microsoft's cloud products, such as Azure, forward.
Wedbush analysts led by Dan Ives wrote, “We estimate that for every $100 of cloud Azure spending on MSFT over the past few years, Nadella & Co.'s AI spending has increased by $35 to $40.” I am.
And if Microsoft's Q1 report is any indication, AI is already paying off. Microsoft Cloud generated $35.1 billion in revenue in the first quarter, up 23% year-over-year. Nadella said the investment in Copilot is part of the reason.
CoPilot is “orchestrating a new era of AI transformation,” Nadella said on the earnings call.
