Microsoft announced an AI-powered feature called Advanced Paste for Windows with PowerToys at its Build 2024 conference on Tuesday (May 22). Opens new options for pasting content from the clipboard in several formats, including plain text, markdown, and JSON. Additionally, users with API credits for OpenAI have access to more features, such as text summarization and code generation. This is just one of the AI-powered enhancements the Mountain View-based tech giant unveiled at its developer conference.
According to the Microsoft Learn blog, advanced paste functionality is available in PowerToys version 0.81.0 and can be accessed with the Windows Key + Shift + V shortcut. This results in[高度な貼り付け]A window will appear allowing the user to choose from three options for pasting from the clipboard: Plain Text, JSON, and Markdown. All of these are available with quick key shortcuts.
1. Paste as plain text – Copy and paste text from the clipboard without formatting.
2. Paste as JSON – This option updates the text copied from the clipboard to JSON format.
3. Paste as markdown – Modify the text copied from the clipboard and replace it with markdown formatted text.

Additionally, Microsoft has introduced an “AI-powered Paste” option that leverages OpenAI's AI technology to provide even more advanced pasting capabilities. Users can provide prompts, and the text will then be analyzed and modified to match the context provided. To access this, users must associate their OpenAI account with PowerToys, activate their API key, and have sufficient credits in their account. The list of functions includes text summarization, text translation, code generation, text transformation, and text styling.
