pursuit of smart glasses Although this has been going on for many years, it is still not successful. but, meta appears to have made great strides with its Ray-Ban smart glasses, introducing new AI features, video calling capabilities, and more in partnership with Ray-Ban.
Launched last year, Meta's second-generation smart glasses received positive reviews for their innovative features. These glasses have built-in cameras, microphones, and speakers, allowing useful tools to be seamlessly integrated into the user's environment. Although it does not have a built-in display, it provides practical functionality.
Building on this foundation, Meta is introducing several important updates to Ray-Ban smart glasses.
First off, the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are gaining additional features thanks to a new update, according to a report from 9to5Mac. Two notable additions utilize the camera. In a move that leverages brand synergy, the glasses' cameras now support video calling on WhatsApp; Facebook Messenger. The feature is being rolled out gradually, but promises to give users a convenient way to share their perspectives during conversations.
Additionally, this camera can now also be used for multimodal AI purposes. Basically, the user can have his Meta's AI analyze the images taken by the camera, giving it a contextual understanding of its surroundings. The feature has been in testing since late last year, but is now rolling out in beta to all glasses owners in the U.S. and Canada.
Meta provides an example of how this feature can be useful.
Imagine you are traveling and need to decipher a menu written in French. Smart glasses use built-in cameras and Meta AI to translate text and provide you with the information you need without having to pull out your phone or stare at a screen.
Additionally, new styles have been introduced for Meta Ray-Ban glasses. The “Skyler” frame is now available for pre-order and introduces a new low bridge option in the headliner style.
These new styles are available for pre-order through Meta's online store and Ray-Ban's website. Additionally, Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses are available in select styles from retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy.
As 9to5Mac pointed out, Meta integrated Apple Music into its smart glasses in a recent update.
