Meta's new AI video tool can put you in the desert (or at least try it out)

AI Video & Visuals

Meta is launching a new video editing tool that allows you to convert videos using AI. This tool is free only for a limited time and offers over 50 preset prompts that can be used to edit videos, set themes, change backgrounds, and adjust what you're wearing.

Presets are presented in the same way as how to select filters on Instagram. Meta AI can be placed in Restyle as a video game or anime. You can also make it look like it was shot in the desert, or you can wear an AI-generated tuxedo. However, this tool only works for the first 10 seconds of the video. It is currently deployed in the US and in “many” countries of Meta AI apps, Meta.ai websites and editing apps.

I tried the feature for myself, but my results certainly didn't look as good as the examples posted on the Meta website. I uploaded a video of my parents' dog digging holes in my backyard and asked Meta AI to look like I was in the desert. Meta AI turned the ground orange and put (purple?) cacti in the foreground and background, giving my dog a sparkling glow for some reason. Then, when I asked me to stop my own video as an anime character, Meta Eye gave me fluorescent pink eyes and lips.

You can also share your edited videos directly to Facebook or Instagram, or place them in Discover Feed in the Meta AI app. You won't be able to use custom prompts now, but Meta states later this year that “you can “edit the video along with Meta AI” using your own text prompt.
