The US government agency said that the Trump administration is pushing commercial AI tools to integrate into government operations, as it allows the meta-platform artificial intelligence system Llama.
The General Services Department, the government's purchasing arm, will add llamas to its list of approved AI tools for federal agencies, GSA procurement leader Josh Gruenbaum said in an interview prior to the announcement of the initiative.
Agents can experiment with the free tool, Llama, with GSA's assurance that it meets government safety and legal standards.

GSA has also signed off in recent months for AI tools from Meta's competitors, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Google, Anthropic and Open AI. The company has agreed to sell paid products at a sudden discount and meet government security requirements, GSA said.
“That's not Curry's favor,” Groenbaum said when asked whether tech executives were giving government discounts to get President Donald Trump's approval. “It's about how we all lock up our weapons and make this country the best.”
The federal agency said it could deploy tools to speed up contract reviews or resolve information technology hiccups more quickly, whether among other tasks.
