Meta-layoffs: The meta-platform led by Mark Zuckerberg, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and other high-tech arms, is expected to carry out company-wide and global layoffs starting Monday, February 10th.
He added that Meta also plans to promote the hiring of machine learning (ML) engineers while work cuts begin next week, a memo sent to employees showed.
Meta spokesman did not respond to the query, the report added.
Employment for the role of machine learning “Expedited”
Additionally, the report cited another memo by Peng Fan, Vice President of Engineering for Monetization at Meta. It asked employees to “support the fast hiring process for machine learning engineers” and other “business critical” engineering roles.
The memo said the employment is likely to take place from February 11th to March 13th, with fans saying:
Chopping block metajob
Citing an internal note to Mark Zuckerberg employees in January, Bloomberg reported that the Meta platform would cut approximately 5% or 3,600 jobs based on performance and rehired them in those roles. It said that affected employees will receive notifications by February 10th.
A note sent to all employees from Zuckerberg said, “We decided to move faster through low performance by increasing the standard of performance management. We usually manage people who are not meeting expectations in a year, but will have a wider performance-based reduction during this cycle.”
He added that only employees who were in the company long enough to qualify for performance reviews, and that Meta “provides generous retirement” along past cuts. As of September 2024, META had employed nearly 72,000 people, with a 5% reduction impacting employment of at least 3,600.
