Meta, an American multinational technology company, has generated AI chatbots that are not permitted to mimic many celebrities such as Salena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Scarlett Johansson, and Anne Hathaway.
AI chat assistants were creating frivolous digital personas that created sexually suggestive content without the knowledge or consent of the stars. Reuters The issue was investigated and reported.
The social media giant has allowed users, including Meta employees, to create public chatbots depicting celebrities.
Among the most concerning findings were bots depicting child actors, who created images of 16-year-old Walker Scobelle shirtless on request for a photo of the beach.
Meta spokesman Andy Stone admitted the failure to enforce policy. “The company's AI tools should not have created intimate images of famous adults or photos of famous children.”
Stanford University professor Mark Lemley said California law specifically prohibits the use of someone's name or likeness to a commercial advantage to question whether meta creations qualify for parody protection.
The digital services company removed about 12 celebrities bots just before the news broke, as legal experts say that Mark Zuckerberg's company's use could be in violation of celebrities' rights to promote.
