META officially launched a video editing feature powered by generative AI, allowing users to easily convert short videos using preset creative prompts.
The new tools are now available on the Meta AI app, the Meta.ai website, and the editing app.
This feature allows users to apply dynamic and imaginative transformations to the video, changing costumes, locations, lighting and styles, without the need for a pre-editing experience. With over 50 pre-built AI prompts, users can edit up to 10 seconds of videos for free in a limited time. The resulting video can be shared directly to Discover Feed on Facebook, Instagram, or on the Meta platform.
In a statement, Meta said the new feature is about unlocking creativity for everyone.
“Whether you're rethinking family memories or building content for your audience, our new AI editing tools are designed to help you breathe your ideas into life effortlessly,” Meta added.
The rollout is an important step in Meta's AI journey, leveraging years of research and development. This feature is inspired by Meta's film Gen Models and is based on technologies such as the Make-A-Scene and the Llama Image Foundation model. With these innovations, Meta combines multiple AI modalities such as image, audio, and video generation into one intuitive tool.
Examples of features include converting rain videos into dreamy soft lighting sequences, or rethinking yourself as a character in vintage comic books or action-packed video games. Meta worked closely with creators to ensure that available prompts resonate with the audience, and streamlined the editing process within the editing app.
Going forward, Meta plans to expand its functionality later this year by allowing users to edit videos using custom text prompts, providing more creative control and flexibility. The current launch is part of a broader commitment to moving forward with AI-powered content creation across the meta ecosystem.
Integrated across the platform and app, Meta aims to provide access to high-quality video editing, such as taking photos and writing captions. This feature is currently “live” in the US and is in over 12 other countries.
“This is just the beginning. I'm excited to see how people use AI to create, connect and express themselves in a whole new way,” the company added.
