Facebook's parent company, Meta Platforms, is considering integrating its generative AI models into Apple's recently announced AI system for the iPhone, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.
The move comes amid reports that Apple is in discussions about a possible collaboration with longtime search partner Alphabet Inc.'s Google as it plans to add technology from other AI companies to its devices.
The iPhone maker is also expected to discuss partnerships with other AI companies in different regions, including China, where Microsoft-backed OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT is banned.
AI startup Anthropik is in talks with Apple to bring its generative AI to Apple Intelligence, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
Meta and Anthropic declined to comment, and Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside business hours.
The talks have not yet been finalized and may fall apart, The Wall Street Journal reported, adding that a deal with Apple would help AI companies distribute their products more widely.
The size of the potential financial gain is unclear, but the talks reportedly involved an AI company that sells premium subscriptions to its services through Apple Intelligence.
AI search startup Perplexity is also in talks with Apple about bringing its generative AI technology to Apple Intelligence, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Apple unveiled its long-awaited AI strategy this month, saying it would integrate new Apple Intelligence technologies across its suite of apps, including Siri, and bring ChatGPT to its devices.
