AI News

The company's artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Meta AI, has begun its rollout in India. The chatbot is available across all Meta-owned platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and on the meta.ai website. The chatbot is powered by the company's in-house Llama 3 large-scale language model (LLM), which was released in April. The social media giant has launched the Meta AI chatbot in several countries just days after the release of the new AI model.

In a newsroom post, Meta announced that it will be rolling out its AI chatbot in India, where it has already begun rolling out, though it will take a few days for the feature to be visible to everyone.

The company did not explain the reason for the delay in the launch in India, but it is believed to be due to the ongoing general elections in the country. With the launch, users will soon see a blue and pink ring in the search bar of the Meta-owned app. Tapping on it will take you to the AI in a separate chat where you can converse, ask questions, generate images, etc. In WhatsApp, you can also add the AI to groups and interact with messages where it is tagged. Notably, Meta AI can access both Google and Bing to answer queries that require performing web searches.

According to Meta, the AI can be used to recommend specific restaurants, plan trips, help with homework, write code, get snapshot summaries of various topics, compose emails, messages, letters, essays, and more.

Apart from being accessible in dedicated chats, users will also be able to access the feature when scrolling through Facebook posts. All posts will have Ask Meta AI Tapping on the icon will reveal more information about the post. Currently, the feature is free and users just need to have an account on any of the Meta platforms to access it.
