Meta has introduced a new AI assistant within its apps (Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp) and a dedicated website meta.ai where users can chat and request information, similar to ChatGPT and Gemini . Spoiler: It is not a replacement for search engines. Meta AI offers amazing creative capabilities.
First of all, don't expect Meta AI to become the next Google. When I search for flights or weekend activities, I get meaningless answers and irrelevant information (lazy AI?). They struggle with basic counting tasks and stumble over the number of syllables in words.
But what's great about Meta AI is that it can manipulate existing text. Adding redundant paragraphs tightens up the content. Are you stuck in the passive voice? Meta AI can rewrite active voices to add context. Are you stuck with technical terminology? AI will translate it into plain language for you. It's basically Grammarly with a little less functionality, but it's free.
Perhaps the most interesting feature is Meta AI's image generation. Just describe what you want in a few words and the AI will generate an image in seconds.
But in the context of chatting with friends, Meta AI offers a fun way to add a creative touch to your conversations.
Meta AI isn't perfect, but it offers a glimpse into the future of AI assistants. Although it can't replace a search engine yet, it can be a useful tool for editing text, generating creative ideas, and producing fun visuals to share with friends and family.
