According to Meta, Moltbook will be part of the company’s Meta Superintelligence Labs. The platform’s creators, Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr, will also be joining the team. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
“The addition of the Moltbook team to MSL opens up new avenues for AI agents to work for people and businesses,” a Meta spokesperson said. “Their approach of connecting agents through an always-on directory is a new step in a rapidly evolving field.”
Moltbook is built on OpenClaw, a system created by developer Peter Steinberger that allows users to communicate with AI agents through popular messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Slack, and Discord. This framework integrates major language models, including ChatGPT.
The project quickly gained traction in the tech community, especially after a post suggesting that AI agents might develop their own cryptographic language to communicate without human supervision. However, researchers later discovered that the platform had serious security vulnerabilities.
Some technology leaders have also commented on this concept. Elon Musk described the development as “the very early stages of the singularity,” referring to a hypothetical moment when artificial intelligence will surpass human intelligence.
The acquisition is expected to close in mid-March, with Moltbook’s founders joining Meta’s AI division on March 16th.
