McDonald's plans to “double” AI investment by 2027, along with an increased use of artificial intelligence to streamline customer orders and reduce business operations, according to Reuters.
The fast food giant is currently using AI to validate orders at 400 restaurants in India, with the outlet saying that the chain has caught and fixed before food is handed over to customers. McDonald's plans to deploy the new system globally in two years, Deshant Kaila, head of global business services operations, reported Reuters.
“We are still in the early stages, so it's difficult to pinpoint an accurate investment,” Kaila said at an event in Hyderabad, southern India.
Beyond order accuracy, McDonald's adds that it is leveraging AI to predict sales, determine pricing strategies, evaluate product performance, and also develop personalized mobile apps that work in multiple countries.

The outlet said India is increasingly playing a central role in McDonald's global technological strategy. Known primarily for its low-cost outsourcing, India's Global Capacity Centre has evolved and provided important support throughout its business.

McDonald's previous attempts on AI integration have seen mixed results. Last summer, the company eliminated another drive-through voice ordering initiative after telling franchisees that the technology failed to meet expectations in early trials.
