AI For Business

The AI agent performed the ride reservation through the hoppa network.

Mastercard completed its first live verified agent transaction in Hong Kong using Mastercard Agent Pay, with an artificial intelligence (AI) agent booking a ride to Hong Kong International Airport through hoppa.

The company said in a press release that its AI agent connected to the global mobility provider’s network of taxis and airport limousines via CardInfoLink.

The transaction involves HSBC and DBS Hong Kong, with similar transactions supported across card types issued by Citi Hong Kong, Hang Seng Bank, Standard Chartered Hong Kong and Mox Bank.

The system used tokenized credentials using a Mastercard payment passkey, and each AI agent used a Mastercard agent token issued specifically for that agent.

Consumer consent was obtained and purchase was confirmed through Mastercard Payment Passkey.

Helena Chen, Mastercard’s senior vice president and general manager for Hong Kong and Macau, said the pilot demonstrates how AI can simplify travel while maintaining payment security.

Mastercard plans to expand use cases for agent transactions across transportation, travel, entertainment, and retail.

The company has also established a regional AI center of excellence in Singapore, collaborates with large language model providers, and is deploying teams across the region for agent commerce.

The company has completed certified agency transactions in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, India, South Korea and Taiwan.
