Elon Musk wanted Mark Zuckerberg to join his bid to buy the open, the startup said.

In a court filing Thursday, Openai said Musk and his AI startup Xai had spoken to Meta's CEO about Openai's “potential funding arrangement or investment.” Neither Zuckerberg nor Mehta signed Musk's letter of intent, Filing said.

In February, Musk's lawyers confirmed that a Musk-led team of investors had filed a $97.6 billion bid to buy the ChatGPT maker. Openai ultimately rejected Musk's proposal.

Xai and Openai did not respond immediately to requests for comment. Meta declined to comment.

Musk and Openai CEO Sam Altman founded several other AI startups in 2015. In 2018, Musk left the company's board of directors in 2018.

Musk continued to release rival Xai. He sued Openai twice for breaching the establishment agreement by increasing commercial profits over public interest, and asked the court to stop attempts at restructuring. Musk was called the open chief “scam” in February.
