The Wall Street Journal reports that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is developing a personal artificial intelligence agent to assist him in his role.
The AI system, which is still in development, is designed to help Zuckerberg access information more quickly by getting answers that would normally have to go through multiple layers of employees.
The project is part of a broader effort within Meta to accelerate workflows, reduce organizational layers, and reimagine employee roles as the company competes with AI-native startups operating with small teams.
Flatter teams powered by AI
Zuckerberg previously laid out the company’s direction during an earnings call, saying, “We’re investing in AI-native tools to empower individuals at Meta to do more. We’re elevating individual contributors and flattening our teams.”
He added that these changes could increase productivity and make work “a lot more fun.”
Meta, which has approximately 78,000 employees, believes the implementation of AI will be central to its future and is actively experimenting with integrating AI tools across its operations.
In-house AI tools gain attention
The company already has AI-powered tools in place internally. Employees use systems such as My Claw, which can access chat logs and work files and communicate on your behalf, and Second Brain, an AI assistant that can index and query project documents.
These tools are part of Meta’s commitment to embed AI into everyday workflows and decision-making processes.
The move also reflects a broader shift in the way artificial intelligence is viewed at the leadership level. At a recent summit, OpenAI’s Sam Altman said that AI will eventually be able to serve as a better CEO than humans.
AI investment and restructuring
Meta’s aggressive AI push involves significant financial commitments and organizational changes. The company may consider cutting up to 20% of its workforce as it increases spending on AI infrastructure, according to reports.
The company has also invested in AI-focused acquisitions and internal projects, including efforts in its Superintelligence Labs division.
Despite delays in the development of some AI models, Meta continues to prioritize AI as a core part of its long-term strategy.
