The elderly Malaysian couple drove over 230 miles (370 km) from Kuala Lumpur to Pera after watching an AI video promoting a scenic cable car ride in the town of Kuala Lumpur.
According to the report subway and South China Morning PostThe couple checked in to a hotel in the Penkaran Full area on June 30th and asked about the so-called “Quac Skyrid,” a cable car service they saw in a video featuring a TV host. A hotel employee using the name @dyaaaaaa._ on social media said he was initially confused by the request.
“I was so shocked… I explained to my aunt that the video was made by AI and not authentic,” the staff wrote in the thread.
The video in question featured a reporter generated by realistic AI on a fictional channel called “TV Rakyat.” The segment portrayed hosts riding in a cable car, passing through mountainous forest scenery, interviewing tourists and enjoying a high-end meal overlooking the scenery. The video concluded with a visit to the Deer Petting Zoo. The video appears to have been made with Google Veo 3.
When the video was said to have been fully manufactured, the elderly woman reportedly became upset and expressed her intention to sue the journalist seen in the footage. Hotel workers explained that people in the video, including reporters, were generated by artificial intelligence. The woman reportedly replied, “Why do everyone want to lie? Did they even appear on the video?”
subway Others are online, parents believe in the video too, reporting that they spend RM 9,000 ($2,120) renting a van and visiting a non-existent attraction. Local media reports say the AI-generated video was widely circulated on social media before it was removed amid the controversy feature.
As AI videos continue to repeat, these strange incidents continue to occur. Last month, the popular YouTuber known as CR1Tikal demonstrated the power of AI videos by tricking regular viewers with his AI-generated videos.
