‘Lots of potential…’: TCS COO optimistic about generative AI, but recognizes adoption constraints

Applications of AI

N Ganapathy Subramaniam, Chief Operating Officer of Tata Consultancy Services, is optimistic about the potential of generative AI and its applications. But despite that, he believes there are certain “constraints” to adopting the technology at the enterprise level.

In an exclusive conversation with Business Today, Subramaniam said: “Generative AI technology has a lot of potential. It is widely accepted by consumers and companies are now exploring its application. I have.”

The COO also noted the types of challenges companies may face in deploying generative AI at scale. “They can lead to costs, protection of competitive advantage and securing the capacity of the organization,” he said.

The IT-focused company is building products to overcome these problems, he added. “We are currently piloting the capabilities of generative AI and are working to develop architectures or models that will enable businesses to adopt and leverage generative AI while protecting and enhancing their competitive advantage. We aim to integrate this technology into our products and services as a differentiating feature while remaining relevant to our customers,” said the COO.

TCS has worked hard to jump on the generative AI bandwagon. The IT services company has more than 50,000 of his AI-trained employees, according to the company’s website. In addition, we plan to earn a total of 40,000 skill badges in Google Cloud Generative AI by the end of the year. Separately, the company recently announced that his 25,000 engineers will be trained on Azure OpenAI.

In addition to improving our skills, TCS is actively building partnerships with leading technology companies to leverage their AI capabilities. Earlier this month, TCS announced an expanded partnership with Microsoft to expand its Azure OpenAI expertise. The IT services giant also plans to launch a new Generative AI Enterprise Adoption offering on Microsoft Cloud.

The company also announced an expanded partnership with Google Cloud in May. He also announced the launch of his own product, TCS Generative AI, which was launched in the same month. TCS Generative AI leverages Google Cloud’s generative AI service to design and deploy custom customized business solutions.
