Burlington, MA.—LG Electronics is currently using speech solutions from Cerence AI's multilingual text to enable television to provide information via voice commands, questions, and statements.
As part of the integration, LG deployed Cerence's Cloud Neural Text (TTS) technology to power voice interactions across its global television lineup, bringing a natural and engaging experience to tens of millions of households.
“Our goal across our TV lineup is to provide back-end AI-driven intelligence that transforms the ease and functionality of everyday life, as well as the best possible photos and sounds.” “By leveraging Cerence AI Technology, we provide our customers with a seamless, intuitive experience from the moment they begin to engage with LG TV. By working with the Cerence team, we can provide a cohesive, flexible, connected, voice-driven experience.
As a result of an upgrade to its operating system, LG TV features Cerence's AI-powered cloud neural TTS, providing high-quality interaction and wide range of capabilities when the device is connected across 65 voices and languages.
Cerence TTS allows LG TV to respond quickly to user inquiries via naturally spoken words, creating a more natural, human-like user experience, and simplifying user interaction when searching for content and programming.
The companies provided this example of what audio-driven interactions with LG televisions look like.
User: “Find the movie with Tom Cruise.”
LG TV: “You have to like Tom Cruise! I looked into some of his films. Is any of them interested in you?”
User: “Can you recommend a pleasant movie to watch a rainy day?”
LG TV: “The search results for the perfect comfortable movie for rainy days are: Find what you like!”
User: “Do you know about a good, sad movie?”
LG TV: “This is the search result for a sad movie. Which one do you want to watch?”
The companies added that the voice interaction capabilities offered by Cerence TTS will help meet the growing global accessibility requirements, including the European Accessibility Act. Cerence TTS makes everyday consumer products like television easy for people of all abilities to run. For example, TTS reads menu and program information in a human-like voice, helping visually impaired users navigate the TV.
Integrated into LG's smart platform, WebOS, Cerence TTS offers minimal latency and does not affect device footprint or CPU requirements, bringing advanced AI capabilities to LG users while keeping costs down. In the future, Cerence AI and LG will partner with us to bring this voice-driven experience to other LG Webos-based products.
