YouTube is injecting Google's AI-assisted search feature in the form of a new Carousel feature. In a blog post, YouTube said that AI-generated carousels are currently limited to US members. You may see it if you search for “Questions related to shopping, locations, or doing something in a specific location” on your phone's YouTube app (this does not happen every time).
This carousel pulls in a series of related videos that play in order from left to right (you can also tap on the video thumbnail to jump straight to that clip). Naturally, this implementation is very similar to looking into the stories of your friends on Instagram. According to YouTube, each video in Carousel offers “useful insights” related to queries.
YouTube has also announced that it will begin rolling out its previous premium, exclusive conversation AI tools for Android to standard US users. The AI Assistant can be activated by clicking the “ASK” button that appears between existing sharing and download options in the toolbar below the video, allowing you to ask questions related to the content of the video. You can also sum up the video before passing 5 minutes of time, or you can sum up the video before getting recommendations for similar content. When it first introduced this, YouTube said that the AI tool was based on YouTube itself and the information in the wider web. It is not clear how many users will be able to use or view the new feature. It is also unknown whether or when iPhone users will get it.
Google's AI Overview Tool is a controversial topic, as it is not always accurate to provide information, especially among other reasons. It remains to be seen if a similar problem will arise for YouTube creators.
