Belgian AI startup Runeasi has raised €1 million in new funding to expand its running and movement analytics platform globally. The round was led by Smarter Ventures, with continued support from Freshmen Fund and Gemma Frisius Fund. Runeasi’s founders also participated in the round, along with Silicon Valley angel investor Sean Gourley, bringing international capital into the Leuven-based company.
The new capital will support Runeasi’s next phase of growth, with a focus on international expansion, particularly in the US where demand is growing rapidly. At the same time, the company plans to continue investing in Belgium, where it has long-term customer relationships.
“We are proud and grateful for the continued confidence of our existing partners and the enthusiasm of several new investors. This funding will enable us to accelerate our next phase of growth. We will be able to expand internationally at a faster pace, with a particular focus on the United States, where we have a strong customer relationship. At the same time, we will continue to focus on the Belgian market, where we have built strong customer relationships for many years,” explains CEO Kurt Schutte.
2025 was a milestone year for Runeasi. The company has expanded its platform beyond running with the launch of a new jump module that assesses explosive strength and responsiveness in athletes in other sports.
We have also expanded our role as an education partner through podcasts and accredited training programs for physical therapists in Europe and North America, including collaborations with physical therapists.
Founded as a spin-off from the University of Leuven, Runeasi helps physical therapists, coaches and running retailers quickly analyze how people run and jump without expensive lab equipment.
What does Runeashi do?
Founded by Kurt Schütte and Tim Op De Béeck, Runeasi uses AI-powered motion sensors to capture biomechanical data when someone runs or jumps. Within minutes, the platform transforms this data into clear, personalized reports with actionable insights for injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance improvement.
Instead of relying on complex cameras and laboratory setups, professionals can perform high-quality analyzes in everyday clinical or retail settings. This makes advanced behavioral analysis more accessible and easier to use.
Runeasi is already used in over 40 countries and has been used for over 50,000 run analyses. Currently, the United States is the largest market. The platform is also used by leading sports shoe brands to support rapid and objective product testing and enhance scientific validation.
“Runeasi is building exactly the type of software we want to invest in: a powerful combination of deep domain expertise, proprietary data, and innovative AI. Their products are intuitive to use and mission-critical for their customers. This is perfectly aligned with our belief that the most successful AI companies create flywheels that drive sustainable growth and innovation,” said Anton Lauven, Managing Partner at Smarter Ventures.
“As an experienced runner, I was immediately impressed with the product. As an investor, what really stood out to me was the strength of the team. The founders deeply understand their customers, make thoughtful product decisions, and strive to learn and improve every day,” adds Kristian de Lange, Managing Partner at Smarter Ventures.
